It has to be said that the sight of this massive collapsed volcano is truly outstanding...and that is not really doing it justice at all. It is totally an awesome huge wondrous and incredible spectacle. Totally!

The PCT does not really run around the rim but there is a detour path that takes you there. I had enjoyed a peaceful night down at the Mazama campsite and the next day went up to view the 'pond' with Pie and Miss Information.

From Crater Lake we made our way towards Mount Thielson and we had decided to possibly have a go at climbing it. (see next post)

I should add that it now seems as though I was hiking with some others but that is not the case. With thru-hiking you very often hike with someone for an hour or two and then either you stop for a reason, or they stop and you may see them later or maybe not! There are no set rules but you just generally 'do your own thing'.....it's just so much easier like that. Everyone go's at different speeds needs different length's of breaks etc. So you normally bump into them at the next resupply point.

Another point is that for Oregon's 400+ trail miles I was due to hike through no towns! The only resupply points were resorts and backcountry business's. The next 'town stop' would be Cascade Locks on the Washington border.
