To recap the Pacific Crest Trails first sections add up to about 700 miles of dry terrain. Yes you sample the high snows of San Jacinto and Baden Powell for a number of days but very soon you are thrown back down in the dry dust of the desert.
700miles is a fair way to hike......(nearly Lands End to John O Groats)...and its dry, dirty and you dream of flowing mountain streams with lush grasses and plants. You barely have enough water to drink let alone clean yourself...so you often hike along smelling bad with your tongue hanging out.....wheres the next spring?
No burger bars to be found....dry country, cacti and snakes
As I struggled up and over some dry mountains I thought about how likely it would be to have the complete opposite weather within a few weeks......how true this would be! (see next posts)
Fortunately I found my odd sense of humour had not gone away!
