I am looking forward to using these very well designed Terra Nova Mountain Gloves. There is nothing worse than cold hands and I'm sure these are up to the job. Many hikers use an inner lightweight glove and a mitten over the top but my concern with this setup is what happens when you reach some scramble terrain? You can't safely scramble with mittens and a full pack so you end up having to take the mitten off meaning the inner gloves get wet and you can get cold hands. Not good. (Indeed you should not be scrambling with a full pack anyway but these situations do occur on long trails).

These gloves have an outer and inner glove.

The outer has a goat leather palm with reinforced kevlar stitching. There are also leather tips to the fingers increasing grip and durability. A wrist drawcord helps keep the warmth in and the weather out and there is a clip enabling you to clip the gloves together. Also an elastic cord you can hang them off your jacket or pack.

The inner gloves have 10oz primaloft insulation and a Goretex inner. There is a rubber mesh on the palm for gripping tools or poles. Also a drawcord on the wrist. They can be used on there own.

A set of complete gloves weighs in at 347g. With a set of inners weighing 174g and outers also 174g.

I will be using these in the Sierra Nevada range and the Canadian Rockies and probably in the Cascades in the Autumn.
