Writing about the Continental Divide Trail yesterday conjured up memories of the Wind River Range in Wyoming. This is one place I have already placed on the must revisit list.

Also known as the Bridger Wilderness this rugged mountain range stretches for just less than 100 miles consisting of glaciated valleys and towering granite peaks the highest of which is called Gannette Peak rising to 13 804ft.

The ‘Winds’ as they are known, are familiar to keen hikers and climbers but still remain a hidden gem to the masses possibly due to their remote location.

On one memorable day I scrambled up to ‘Texas pass’ at 11 400ft where I then entered the famous ‘Cirque of Towers’ comprising of a natural amphitheatre of spectacular mountains.

'At Texas Pass with the main Cirque of Towers to my right including Pingora Peak at 11 884ft'

The Winds can be reached from the small town of Pinedale on highway 191 which links back to Jackson Wyoming.

To the north lies The Tetons Wilderness and Yellowstone National Park to the north of this.

If you are looking for a fantastic holiday idea, how about visiting the three areas in one hit?
