Just been out in the woods looking for fungi. I thought that maybe it was still too dry for any decent mushroom numbers to be up and it seems I was correct. However, we did find a few though including some interesting ones.

No talk of mushrooms and wild food would be complete without the usual disclaimers. Sorry to be such a bore...it's just the way of the world.

Disclaimer - Please read

Do not pick or eat any wild mushrooms and wild plants. They can kill you or make you sick. If you do want to go foraging consult an expert. Books on their own are not enough. Neither are pictures on the web such as these. My pics and ID's are just for interest & may be incorrect.

Also, if you do go mushroom hunting follow the mushroom code

The highly poisonous Fly Agaric - Amanita muscaria

take some pictures and admire from a distance (the uprooted one was already there when I turned up). The Amanita family also contains the deadly Death cap and Destroying angel

I think these are common puffballs....Lycoperdon perlatum.....there are many similar puffballs, none of which are particularly good to eat. The giant puffball is said to be good but I have never found one. They can be confused with emerging young Amanitas too...so beware

The Parasol mushroom is a good find and makes good eating. Once again similar species are to be avoided. (I left the larger one to set spores)
